What about French? This is what I always think when I hear the Americans speak English thing. My grandfather and his ancestors spoke French, German, and English, not until he went to school and had the fuck beat out of him when he spoke french with his buddies did that cultural legacy begin to die. I don’t know french beyond how to respond to my grandfather when he asked “Como ca va?” This is because of the 1920s version of dickheads who say Americans speak English. Well my ancestors didn’t come to America they came to Louisiana and America then came to them. So I hear Americans speak English and I wonder if I’m American, and if I want to be American.
If only bigots would spend half the time on education that they spend hating people… well, then I guess they probably wouldn’t be bigots then, would they?
