– How Ayn Rand Seduced Young Men and Helped Make the U.S. into an Uncaring Nation (via azspot) Ayn Rand was the fucking Devil. I’m almost sure of this. Oh, and she was an unscientific kook. Check out The Selfish Gene for an explanation of how altruism is an evolutionary trait. The idea of...

Sleep
In between brushing your teeth at night and brushing them in the morning you’re supposed to sleep right? Yeah, I thought so.  Not smoking pot is dangerous. You’re all clear headed, music doesn’t compel you to move, food seems optional and certainly not enjoyable, and worst of all sleep seems a task not a warm and welcoming embrace. Up shot is that I can spell better, slightly.

Can you get to that
did some smart shit.  OpenCourseWare class on Finance from Yale.  did some country shit.    Ate cornbread and deer sausage for dinner.  did some stoney shit.     Listened to Rill Rill  and dreamed up a seemingly incredible video to the song in my head. Then I looked up the lyrics. The beat is still awesome. But we have Funkadelic to thank for most of the heavy lifting.     Can You Get to That

Prairie Home Companion
Mr. Keillor’s biscuit hocking show just came on my local NPR affiliate. Am I a bad person for hating this show with a passion ?  Maybe it’s because I just listened to Shane Smith from Vice on the Joe Rogan podcast. It’s just hard to go from stories of General Bucknacked and the Tupac Army eating the hearts of innocent children to cute songs and good natured midwestern...

I knew a man once that threw his engagement ring off a bridge, gave away all his records and books, quit his job, and was beaten for no reason leaving a bar. The brain damage from the beating left him off, like a mild stroke. The heart ache was still worse. I saw him smoking crack in an old warehouse, he told me how he was adopted. His birth mother had been rapped and he was the result. His...

Do not go to Blog Del Narco straight from looking up pictures of an old crush on Facebook. Being kinda bummed and aware of your own mortality just by looking at pictures of slightly older slightly fuller girl you use to have a thing for isn’t quite the same as being absolutely horrified at the sight of the worst of what humans are capable of, everyones mortality is brought to the fore of...

“Fuck all y’all.” Hearing this in a smokey bar while “Night Moves” swells is the best thing that’s happened to me all day. It’s not why I live in the south, but the daily blows of ignorance, self assured bravado, and the opposition to most things new or different is softened, ever so slightly, by the gentle sound of “all y’all” even if...

“We know a little, enough to survive, but all the rest of the world is a mystery.” E.O. Wilson, from Consilience. This is the break; this is when we hijack the survival machine that is our body.

Cimbri
Its 101 bc. You’ve been defending the roman republic by hacking junks of flesh off the bodies of Germanic tribes men, all the while trying to keep your own flesh well attached to your body. The dusty plain the battle is taking place on has become red and sticky with the blood of tens of thousands of dead, but the tide has turned. You’ve got the barbarians on the run. You may have been a little...

Bar Observations
She lifted up her right leg behind her back, grabbed it with the opposite hand and tried to stretch it in anyway that would make the dull pain of a years old ballet injury go away. If even just a little bit.
